Dyslexia...a definition
Dyslexia is a common language-based learning disability
that causes children or adults to have difficulties with
accurate and/or fluent word recognition for decoding
(reading) and encoding (spelling). These difficulties
can hinder the affected individual’s development of reading
and writing skills, with the individual’s skills significantly
lower than expected despite having normal intelligence,
motivation and having received normal classroom instruction.
Dyslexia is neurological in origin and typically results
from a deficit in the phonological component of language.
It affects individuals throughout their lives, but with
proper remediation individuals can learn to decode and
encode. |
