What is Dyslexia?
This workshop will explore the signs and symptoms of dyslexia as well as dispel many popular myths. Participants will become familiar with definition of dyslexia as well as learn the most recent scientific evidence that provides some evidence that dyslexia is neurobiological and which strategies have been shown to be successful when teaching people with dyslexia to read. Participants in this course will also have the opportunity to experience simulations of dyslexia. This is an abbreviated version of the online class.

Informal Assessment Strategies
This course will explore formative assessment techniques tutors and teachers can use when working with students with dyslexia to monitor progress. A few of the strategies that participants will explore are miscue analysis, repeated reading, questioning strategies, and informal reading inventories that can be used with struggling readers. Upon completion of the course participants will learn how to interpret the various assessment results as well as when to use them. This will be accomplished during the one month course through live chats, discussion boards, research articles, and written personal reflections. Every participant will be required to complete a pre-test and successfully pass a post test to receive a certificate of completion.

Comprehension
This course will explore the research-based strategies that are help students to increase their comprehension and fluency when reading narrative and expository texts. Participants will learn and discuss strategies for reading comprehension, vocabulary development, and fluency improvement. These strategies will include pre-reading, during reading, and post-reading strategies. This is an abbreviated version of the online class.

Training in Remediation for Dyslexia
(Based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach)
This is a series of classes that will train participants in the research based approach to effectively teach someone with dyslexia.

Workshops for Adult Learners with Dyslexia
We offer two to six hour trainings customized for adults with dyslexia or limited reading and writing skills.
