Why Is It Spelled That Way?

2nd-8th graders
These classes are designed to give students an introduction to understanding how English words are structured to help them begin to understand there is a logic to English spellings. By beginning to develop this understanding, it will assist students in improving their encoding (spelling) and decoding (reading) words based on the true structure of the English language. It may also assist them with improving their vocabulary.

This class is offered for:

2nd - 3rd Grade: (up to 10 participants)

  • T/Th - 8:00-9:00am PST (10:00-11:00am CST, 11:00am-12:00pm EST)
  • 4th - 5th Grade: (up to 12 participants)
  • T/Th - 9:30-10:30am PST (11:30am-12:30pm CST, 12:30-1:30pm EST)
  • 6th - 8th Grade: (up to 15 participants)
  • T/Th - 11:00am-12:00pm PST (1:00-2:00pm CST, 2:00-3:00pm EST)

Class sessions will be one hour in duration: 50 mins of instruction and 10 minutes of Q&A. (Kids can ask questions throughout instruction as well.)

Each session will be a total of nine sessions. The second summer session will be for those who participated in session one (or any previous session). We will be offering a session in August, but will be announcing how those groups will be scheduled based on feedback we will request from participants in July.

Summer Session 2: July 1st - July 30th (Total 9 sessions - $225)
This session will be a continuation from Session 1 and will be for participants from the previous sessions.
